How to Start a Video Blog
Have you ever thought that you have something relevant and helpful to share with the blogosphere? Have you ever watched a video online and told yourself that you can do the same?
Well, if you have, then you certainly have the makings of a video blogger!
But wait, I am sure that even if you have the desire to put your videos online and have your say, you find yourself thinking if you can actually do the entire production process.
Video blogging is a fun and relatively easy activity. Of course, it requires patience and passion from you. If you really are determined to be the Internet’s next big thing, here are some things you might like to know when starting a video blog.
Have an Interesting Topic
It’s not very hard to come up with an interesting topic. If you are expert on a particular field, then produce video tutorials so you can share what you know. If you have a business, then create a video blog for your niche. Always remember to keep every episode informative, relevant and helpful. Produce something of value and your audience will definitely keep coming back for more.
Write a Script
If you are just starting out then it is important for you to have a script for every episode of your video blog. Some may think that writing a script is a waste of time because you can just go on and speak in front of the camera about your topic. Wrong. So wrong.
Having a script will help you save time in producing your video. Knowing what to say and how to say them will avoid too many mistakes and outtakes. Besides, your audience will not like it if you constantly say, “Ummm… like, you know, yea. Something like that.” and if you keep forgetting what to say.
Prepare you script and deliver your lines perfectly. It will exude a professional image, therefore putting yourself out there as an authority in your niche. Remember, if your viewers are convinced that you know your stuff and are confident about it, they will trust you.
Have the Necessary Tools
Before even starting a video blog, you must have the important gadgets and software. The basics include a camera, a microphone and a video editing software. Those three are enough for beginners. But as your video blog or web show progresses, you might need to upgrade your equipment and add new ones such as strobes, gobo or other materials to make your episodes more interesting.
So there you have it, the most basic things to consider when starting a video blog. There really is no need to splurge on equipment when you’re only just beginning. I have started a video blog with just a webcam, a USB microphone, a video editing software that came with my OS and a lot of guts.
Yes, you’ll need guts, too, when you produce your own video blog. But if you really have something to say, and you can communicate it well, I’m sure you’re gonna be great.
