How to Start a Video Blog

with 3 comments

Have you ever thought that you have something relevant and helpful to share with the blogosphere? Have you ever watched a video online and told yourself that you can do the same?

Well, if you have, then you certainly have the makings of a video blogger!

But wait, I am sure that even if you have the desire to put your videos online and have your say, you find yourself thinking if you can actually do the entire production process.

Video blogging is a fun and relatively easy activity. Of course, it requires patience and passion from you. If you really are determined to be the Internet’s next big thing, here are some things you might like to know when starting a video blog.

Have an Interesting Topic

It’s not very hard to come up with an interesting topic. If you are expert on a particular field, then produce video tutorials so you can share what you know. If you have a business, then create a video blog for your niche. Always remember to keep every episode informative, relevant and helpful. Produce something of value and your audience will definitely keep coming back for more.

Write a Script

If you are just starting out then it is important for you to have a script for every episode of your video blog. Some may think that writing a script is a waste of time because you can just go on and speak in front of the camera about your topic. Wrong. So wrong.

Having a script will help you save time in producing your video. Knowing what to say and how to say them will avoid too many mistakes and outtakes. Besides, your audience will not like it if you constantly say, “Ummm… like, you know, yea. Something like that.” and if you keep forgetting what to say.

Prepare you script and deliver your lines perfectly. It will exude a professional image, therefore putting yourself out there as an authority in your niche. Remember, if your viewers are convinced that you know your stuff and are confident about it, they will trust you.

Have the Necessary Tools

Before even starting a video blog, you must have the important gadgets and software. The basics include a camera, a microphone and a video editing software. Those three are enough for beginners. But as your video blog or web show progresses, you might need to upgrade your equipment and add new ones such as strobes, gobo or other materials to make your episodes more interesting.

So there you have it, the most basic things to consider when starting a video blog. There really is no need to splurge on equipment when you’re only just beginning. I have started a video blog with just a webcam, a USB microphone, a video editing software that came with my OS and a lot of guts.

Yes, you’ll need guts, too, when you produce your own video blog. But if you really have something to say, and you can communicate it well, I’m sure you’re gonna be great.

Why Put Your Videos Online?

with one comment

So many people ask me why I post a lot of my videos online. I have videos on my personal blog, on my homemaking blog and on Gradparazzi.

Exactly why do video bloggers post their stuff online? Let me answer that with another question. Why are YouTube and a lot of other video sharing sites such a hit with internet users?

Because videos are fun and engaging!

Yes, a picture is worth a thousand words, but videos can say a whole lot more. This is probably one of the top reasons why people upload videos online. This is the reason why I became a video blogger in the first place. The process of creating videos is fun, but sharing it and receiving comments about my videos is even more fun.

Here are two more reasons why you should put your videos online.

To Entertain

Videos are entertaining in its nature. No matter what the topic of the video is, there will always be someone interested in it. Why are viral videos so popular? Because they tickle the fancy of the viewers. Why do comediennes like iJustine and HappySlip have a large following? They make people laugh.

To Inform

Infotainment web shows are now on the rise. These shows are not random or spontaneous. They have a specific format and topic, and are updated on a regular basis. Among these shows are Wine Library TV, Mahalo Daily and Tekzilla Daily.

If you have knowledge in a specific field, you can share all you know by producing your own web show.

Putting your videos out there can be so much fun. You can create your own portfolio of videos, produce your very own web show and build a community of followers who can help you succeed in the field of video blogging and online media.

Your College Life, on Video

with one comment

Your college years may well be among the best years of your life. Everything is there – the first taste of independence and adult life, making your first steps towards your future, meeting a lot of interesting people, and of course, the parties that make college life so exciting.

But what is a great experience without something to remember it by? Sure, pictures are good, but videos are even better. Pictures and videos last a lifetime, but you have to have a reliable means to store them. This is where Gradparazzi comes in.

Gradparazzi is the newest video sharing and social networking site for college students. It is the place to meet like-minded people, share stories, pictures and videos of just about anything you experience in your life as a college student.

Been to a party last weekend and had a blast? Let the world know what a great time you had and upload videos of the wackiest moments of the party. An event is coming in a few weeks’ time? Make it a point to record the highlights of the occasion and share them to those who were not able to attend.

And what is better than sharing your videos online? Making money from them!  Each time a video is viewed, the member who originally uploaded the video earns a little something. Talk about being compensated for video creation and distribution efforts!

Gradparazzi makes sure that your college experience will never be forgotten.
